Favourite Style of Carp Fishing - Canal and River Fishing, Boatfishing with my Shetland 536
My name is Simon Middendorf (34) and I live in Meppen, a small town in the watery Emsland near the Dutch border. As a father of two children (5 and 2), we live here directly on the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the Ems with its connected oxbow lakes and the Hase. These three waters flow together here in the middle of the city and thus offer a wide range of possibilities for new adventures. This richness of facets and especially the often unknown, wild fish, makes river and canal fishing so exciting and interesting for me.
As a family man, of course, you don't have as much time as you did a few years ago when you spent the entire weekend exclusively on the water. However, I have found that many short overnighters during the week and on weekends are much more effective than staying at the spot for days waiting for the fish to come.
From 8pm to 8am is the motto! This is when the best biting hours of our stretches are, which in turn makes the short nights so effective. Two nights a week are so usually no problem and the family blessing hangs also still far not crooked.
If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably already seen that I have been on the river for some time with my boat - a Shetland 536. Terry Hearn has inspired me with his film "Eleven Years Afloat" extremely and after the first fishy sessions with the boat, I do not want to miss this way of fishing.
With Trakker and Cygnet I have gained a very good partner for my fishing, and their products fit perfectly to my river and canal fishing.
So if you're into wild fish and river fishing, feel free to follow me on Instagram. For 2022, there are a few cool projects planned again, which you will certainly hear about soon
